Prefix Number Plates
Prefix number plates were first introduced in 1983, after the suffix number plates had reached Y and had therefore expired. Essentially, the suffix pattern was reversed to produce the following format:
- Single letter prefix
- One to three numbers
- Space
- Three letter sequence (these indicate the area of issue)
Prefix registrations are known for being the most popular format in the number plate market, ranging from £89 to £250,000.
